Welcome to Offroad Motorcycle Adventures Portugal! We're thrilled to share our passion for off-road riding and the exceptional machines that make our adventures unforgettable. Never heard of SWM Motorcycles? Let’s have a quick look at the rich history of the SWM brand and explain why we've chosen their RS 300 R and RS 500 R models for our tours.
A Brief History of SWM Motorcycles
SWM, short for Speedy Working Motors, was founded in Milan, Italy, in 1971 by Piero Sironi and Fausto Vergani. The company quickly gained recognition for producing high-quality off-road motorcycles, including trials, enduro, and motocross bikes. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, SWM achieved significant success in European enduro championships, securing several titles with riders like Brissoni, Andreini, Marinoni, and Gritti.
Despite their competitive achievements, SWM faced financial challenges and ceased production in 1984. The brand was resurrected in 2014 when the KTM/Pierer Mobility AG acquired the Husqvarna brand from BMW in 2014, the intellectual property, tooling, and original Italian manufacturing center were purchased by SWM with backing from the Shineray Group. SWM resumed manufacturing in Italy, combining Italian design with proven engineering to produce a new range of motorcycles.
